Megaupload closed due to alleged copyright infringement. Justice Department and the FBI said the suspects are responsible for ‘massive online piracy action on a global scale via Megaupload and some related websites’.
Seven people, including the founder of Megaupload based in Hong Kong (Kim Schmitz) was indicted on charges of copyright violations and other criminal acts.
Megaupload is also accused of making money of US$ 175 million for his crimes, and causing losses of more than billions of dollars belonging to the copyright holders, because the movie content, pirated music which they attach.
This action makes the hackers reacted strongly upon the closing Megaupload. Anonymous group announced in a tweet of his, that they had just attacked the U.S. Justice Department website, Universal Music and Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
